BTS:Folan Agenda
The Folan Story
The purpose of this article is to explain the ongoing Folan agenda present in Peace Station-series as well as all of the spin-offs. Generally Folans are both villains and good guys, mainly villains though.
Pre-Peace Station
The Folans are a very xenophobic race and they believe in their own superiority. They are interested in conquest and galactic domination, but they are also very secretive and like to work behind-the-scenes a lot.
The purpose of the Folan war was to eliminate the UCP, as they never believed the Gigerdians would assist, and after the UCP to move on to the Gigerdians, but this plan backfired. However, they did discover something during the war. In one of the first UCP colonies they attacked, they invaded the homeworld of Den Kylek. There they discovered a group of humans that were somehow much stronger and possessed "magical" abilities. While they were able to extract very little information, they found out that they utilized some very advanced and ancient technology that allowed them to manipulate nature itself.
This would obviously be a very strong weapon for the Folan Empire so it became one of the top-priorities after the war. Den Kylek's people fled the planet to the Beta quadrant free zone and Folan operatives were sent to locate them. In the process, Den Kylek's father gets assassinated by the Folan operatives and several of their ships are in the area searching for Kylek's remaining people, and the source of the power.
The conclusion is still a mystery, it's possible that Folans will be able to obtain a piece of this technology or not. The Folans do have their own experiments to create "super Folans", but they are significantly less advanced. More on that later.
Peace Station Era
During the Peace Station, they will attempt to sabotage several treaties and in one episode to frame the UCP in order to obtain the homeworld of Den Kylek. The Peace Station itself is a rather significant threat to the Folans, as it can create stability in the galaxy, something that the empire does not wish. They will attempt to destabilize it whenever possible, but they often do these behind-the-scenes and so that nothing can be traced back to them. They are often against anything that can advance galactic peace. They will also attempt to sabotage the Dand joining to the UCP, although only connection to few Dand houses is discovered.
They will assist in the Timocracy war, but remain more in the background than other species. They consider Timocracy as a significant threat that requires the other species in order to be defeated.
In season five they attempt to use Sonhan to destabilize the region. They also have operatives working in numerous other alien governments.
Generally Folans attempt to do everything behind-the-scenes and while there will be strong leads linking them there will never be actual proof. Thus nothing can actually be done against them. They are supposed to be prominently featured during all the five seasons, mostly in bad, but also in good.
Post-Peace Station
They will probably have some kind of influence in the Gigerdian civil war, either by assisting Rubek's forces or the rebels.
They also try to instigate the GA-IPA conflict.
More about the post-PS agendas later.
